WHERE WE PLAY

Whitehorse Mustangs primarily field junior domestic teams in the EDJBA. Where a complete team is formed, including players, a coach and a team manager, we can also register teams in the GEBC, MEBA or CBL competitions. Conditions apply.

Below is an overview of these competitions.

EDJBA COMPETITION

EDJBA: The largest junior domestic basketball competition in Australia. Games are played on Saturdays across Melbourne, from Park Orchards to Princes Hill, and Bundoora to Blackburn South.

OTHER COMPETITIONS:
Registration is subject to interest.
BYO teams are welcome and must include a minimum of seven players and a coach.

GEBC: Nunawading Basketball’s domestic competition is played on Saturdays across the eastern suburbs, from Wantirna South to East Burwood, and Mulgrave to Mitcham.

MEBA: Nunawading Basketball’s local domestic competition is played mid-week across the eastern suburbs, from Wantirna South to East Burwood, and Mulgrave to Mitcham.

WHERE WE TRAIN

We train at Orchard Grove Primary School Stadium, Blackburn South and Surrey Hills Primary School, Surrey Hills.

Each team is allocated a 60 minute mid-week training session. We train Monday-Thursday. The first session is 4pm and the last 8pm. Younger teams generally train earlier.

AGE GROUPS

Age groups are determined by date of birth, with cut-off dates varying depending on the competition.

Playing outside your age group
  • Up one age group: A player may compete in the age group above their correct age (for example, a U09 player by date of birth may play U11). Please indicate this on the registration form.
  • Up two age groups: A player may compete two age groups above their correct age (for example, a U09 player by date of birth may play U13). This requires a parent or guardian to sign a waiver before the player takes the court. *
  • Down an age group: Permission may be requested for a player to compete in the age group below their correct age. Supporting documentation from a medical professional is usually required.

NEW TO BASKETBALL?

Our New Member Information is designed to help families and players understand how domestic basketball works at the Mustangs. It provides a clear overview of how our club operates and what to expect throughout the season.

You’ll also find information on how you can support our club as a volunteer and become part of our community on and off the court.

Take a look and get started with confidence.

NEW MEMBER INFORMATION
TEAM SELECTION PROCESS

Our volunteer Team Selection Committee takes pride in placing each player in a team that best matches their ability, helping them develop confidence and a love of the game.

Please note: the more restrictions a player has, the harder it is to find a suitable placement. To help the committee, we ask that you:

  • Limit the number of activities scheduled on Saturdays
  • Maximise the times and/or days your child is available for training

Any concerns about team selection are reviewed by the committee, not individuals. Feedback must be submitted via the Team Selection Feedback within 72 hours of teams being released.

For full details, please refer to our Team Selection Policy.

TEAM SELECTION POLICY
CUSTOM TEAMS
U08/09 and U15/16 and above

In general the club reserves the right to ensure the top one or two teams in each age group are selected based on merit, ability and talent. This helps the club remain competitive across all grades and sections.

We understand players often want to play together. While we do our best to accommodate requests, it is not always possible. For this reason, Custom Teams are only offered for U08/09 and U15/16 and above. Reciprocated friendship requests can be made in all age groups.

If you would like to register a Custom Team, please complete the form below. The Team Selection Committee will review your request and, if approved, provide the registration link for your custom team.

Note: The date the form is submitted will determine whether players pay the Early Bird, Standard or Late registration fee. If necessary, we will provide a voucher code to ensure the correct rate is applied.
